The Chairman and Ranking Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives, Rep. Eliot Engel (D-NY) and Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX), issued a joint statement on their resolution, H.Res.958, calling for the release of Russian political prisoners, including Alexei Pichugin.
“The measure we’re introducing sends a strong, bipartisan message to the Kremlin: the United States Congress stands with the heroes who put their lives at risk for freedom and democracy,” said Chairman Engel.
“As Americans, we must stand up for the freedoms and democratic aspirations of others around the world,” added Ranking Member McCaul. “We must never be afraid to lend our voices to those who have had their own taken.”
