Between November 27th  and December 20th, Russian authorities ignore three successive injunctions from the European Court of Human Rights, each ordering that Vasily Aleksanyan be given medical treatment.

Authorities hold Mr. Aleksanyan in an attempt to extract incriminating testimony from him about Mr. Khodorkovsky or other Yukos leaders. Mr. Aleksanyan ultimately dies after not receiving medical help in time.
