Mr. Khodorkovsky is released from prison by presidential pardon after more than ten years in prison.

The pardon follows years of international pressure on Mr. Putin, but appears to be motivated largely by Mr. Putin’s desire to boost his image leading up to the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.
