Alexey Pichugin. 18 years of GULAG

19 June, 2021

Leonid Nevzlin:

Another year has passed. Another year of a life stolen. Today marks 18 years that Alexey Pichugin’s been in prison. It boggles the mind; I don’t know where Alexey draws his strength and courage. It’s beyond heroism. Maybe his faith helps him. And not just faith in God. Faith in a higher justice as well, justice that will certainly come. Think about it, imagine: 18 horrid years an innocent man spent in jail. Just because he refuses to go against his conscience and bear false witness. Just because the mafia needs a hostage. It’s a nightmarish reality created by the Kremlin Gestapo. And it must be – and will be – demolished. Alexey must be set free. At any price. Let him go ahead and give any testimony they want, let him say whatever they want, whatever they expect from him. I support it – of course if his freedom is then restored. But what’s very important to me personally is to always remember Alexey and always fight for him.
