Alexei Pichugin wishes a “Merry Christmas and a happy 2021!”

Like many political prisoners now, Alexei Pichugin greets yet another New Year behind bars. That’s his 18th New Year under arrest. During his first two years in prison, only his family and close friends wrote to him. In 2005, another caring person started writing too. Then there were dozens more pen-pals, and now it’s hundreds. This invaluable support allows Alexei to keep going in an unthinkably cruel and unfair situation.
Alexei Pichugin wishes his pen-pals, friends, family, his lawyers, and their families a “Merry Christmas and a happy 2021!” He also sends his wishes to Dmitry Muratov and the entire staff of Novaya Gazeta newspaper which has been focusing on his fate for many years. He sends “special good wishes to Alexander Markin, Mark Galperin, Yuri Dmitriev, who are” – he writes – “like me, against their will, far from home and the people dear to them. May the Lord protect them! To all of you, from the bottom of my heart, I wish you peace, good health, well-being, and strength of spirit in the new year, as well as faith, hope and great, real love! May God make all of you happy for many, many good, kind years! May your most cherished dreams and wishes come true! Take care of yourselves and your health, take care of each other!”
